Cypress Creek begins in northwestern Harris County, just across the border of Waller County. Parks of note along the way include Grant Woods Park, Elizabeth Kaiser Meyer Park, Donald R. Collins Park, Northwood Park, Forest Oaks Park and Lents Family Parks West & East.
Cypress Creek is characterized by a diverse environment where many animal species, including the bald eagle, peregrine falcon and the American alligator, have been spotted. The watershed upstream of Highway 290 is part of the sensitive Katy Prairie ecosystem – see Katy Prairie Conservancy

Canoeing is a popular activity on Cypress Creek.Many trips can be made down the creek utilizing several launch points. Some mapped sections of paddle trails are available on Bayou Preservation Association website, see Cypress Creek Paddle Trails
